Bhopal, Sep 10 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered a judicial inquiry into the spurious liquor tragedy in Sagar district that claimed the lives of 15 persons, officials said.
Soon after returning from Dubai, CM Yadav went to Sagar district on Wednesday to review the situation and ordered a judicial inquiry to ensure an impartial investigation and assign responsibility for the tragedy.
The chief minister also directed recently posted senior IAS officer Dilip Kumar to take charge of the Sagar division and also appointed senior IPS officer Irshad Wali as Inspector General of the Sagar range.
As per the instructions, Dilip Kumar assumed charge as the commissioner of Sagar division.
Yadav earlier said that negligence or irregularities in serious cases will not be tolerated at any level.
The death toll in the spurious liquor tragedy in Banda tehsil of Sagar district rose to 15 on Tuesday after two more victims succumbed during treatment, police said.
One of the deceased men is an accused in the bootlegging network. Nearly 40 people remain hospitalised, three of them in critical condition, an official said.
Police have arrested 14 of the 30 accused in the case, and a search is on for the others.
Three excise officers and two policemen have been suspended in connection with the incident. PTI MAS NP GK
