New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday washed the feet of a tribal man who was recently urinated on.

Chouhan also apologised to the victim, Dashmat Rawat, for the incident in the state’s Sidhi district, saying it was his duty as the “public is my God”.

Rawat later accompanied the chief minister to Bhopal’s Smart City Park where the duo planted a sapling.

The urination video, which went viral on social media, sparked tremendous outrage and it was alleged that the perpetrator Pravesh Shukla was a close aide of a BJP MLA.

Shukla was arrested on Wednesday and his illegal property demolished.

Former state Congress president Kantilal Bhuria claimed that Shukla had forced the victim to sign an affidavit to avoid any case against him.

He said the incident was an insult to the entire tribal community.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJP has denied any links with Shukla. The state has booked him under Sections 294 (obscene acts), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The stringent National Security Act has also been invoked.

MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra called Shukla’s action as “heinous, condemnable and a shame on humanity”.
