MP Assembly’s five-day Winter session to begin from Dec 7; Cong slams short duration

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Bhopal, Nov 6 (PTI) The Winter session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly will commence from December 7 and end on December 11, an official said on Friday.

The session will have five sittings, including Question Hour, the notification issued by the state assembly’s principal secretary Arvind Sharma said.

In compliance with the order issued by Governor Mangu Bhai Patel, the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat issued the notification on convening the session.

Notices of private members’ bills for the session will be received at the Legislative Assembly Secretariat until November 11, and notices of private members’ resolutions until November 26.

Similarly, adjournment motions, calling attention motions, and notices under Rule 267-A will be received at the Legislative Assembly Secretariat from December 1, during office hours, from 11 am to 4 pm.

Meanwhile, reacting to the short duration of the Winter session, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly (LoP) Umang Singhar said the BJP government is running away from people’s questions.

“Madhya Pradesh faces a plethora of problems, but the BJP government doesn’t have time for discussion in the Assembly. The Winter session has been called for only 5 days. The previous Monsoon session was also scheduled for 5 days, but it was wrapped up in just 3 days,” he said in a statement.

The public demands answers from the government on serious issues like the deaths of children in Balaghat, deaths due to poisonous liquor in Sagar and Dewas, the plight of farmers, youth unemployment, women’s safety, tribal rights, education, health, rising debt, and deteriorating law and order, but the government wants to shirk its responsibility, Singhar added.

“The MLAs elected from the state’s 230 assembly seats are the voice of over 7 crore people. When the public has so many questions, the time for discussion in the Assembly should be increased, not reduced. The government can shrink the House, but not the public’s questions,” he said.

The Congress Legislature Party will strongly raise every public issue in the Assembly and hold the BJP government accountable to the public, the LoP added. PTI MAS BNM
