Ballia (UP), Sep 17 (PTI) A 65-year-old woman and her 22-year-old blind and differently-abled daughter were found murdered in a village here on Thursday, police said.
The body of Manti Gupta was found in her house in Mustafabad (Sarai Bharti) village under Rasra police station limits, while her daughter Gauri’s body was later found in a paddy field behind the house, they said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Omveer Singh said the two women appeared to have been killed by blows to the head with a heavy object.
An attempt also appeared to have been made to destroy evidence, with blood allegedly washed from the site, he said.
According to the SP, the incident appeared to have taken place inside the house, and Gauri’s body was subsequently dumped around 25-30 metres away in the field.
Police teams have been deployed to investigate all possible angles, Singh said, adding that Manti’s 70-year-old husband Ram Cheej Gupta was also being questioned.
The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajneesh said a murder case against unidentified persons was registered based on a complaint filed by Ram Cheej Gupta.
Police said Ram Cheej has denied having any enmity with anyone. PTI COR ABN SMV PRK
