MoPSW secretary T.K. Ramachandran inspects Deendayal Port Expansion in Gujarat

New Delhi: The government is committed to enhancing port infrastructure and improving the welfare of the people working at the ports. This was stated by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), T.K. Ramachandran, during his visit to the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Gujarat, a PIB press release stated.

During the visit, the Secretary inspected the New Oil Jetty No. 8 at DPA. The jetty is being developed to increase the port’s capacity for handling POL and LPG products. The jetty has a draft of 13 meters and a deadweight tonnage of 80,000 to 100,000. its development is expected to cost Rs 225.85 crores. The existing oil jetties at Old Kandla are nearing full utilisation, making this expansion crucial.

To enhance the welfare and working conditions of the labour force, a new Labour Amenity Centre was inaugurated by the Secretary at the Cargo Jetty Area of the DPA. This facility aims to provide essential amenities and a better working environment to the workers engaged at the port.

Additionally, to improve mobility and accessibility for the differently-abled and underprivileged, five buses/vans at the Administrative Office Building Complex of Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) were inaugurated by the Secretary. These vehicles were purchased to run on CSR funds of DPA for the welfare of Divyangjans and community services.

The Secretary also spoke about the future initiatives of the government for promoting trade, improving logistics, and fostering sustainable development in the maritime sector.
