New Delhi, Aug 7 (PTI) A multi-agency mock anti-terror drill simulating bomb explosions was conducted at the busy Nehru Place commercial hub in southeast Delhi on Friday to assess the preparedness and coordinated response of emergency services in the event of a terror attack, police said.
The exercise, held between 10 am and 11.20 am, was aimed at evaluating the response time, communication network and coordination among various agencies responsible for handling emergencies.
According to police, the National Security Guard (NSG) created a simulated scenario involving bomb blasts at two locations inside Nehru Place Market. A mock PCR call was generated to activate the emergency response mechanism.
Soon after the alert, personnel from the local police and other participating agencies reached the spot and activated their standard operating procedures. The area was cordoned off, access to the affected locations was regulated and rescue and evacuation operations were carried out, officials said.
Bomb detection and anti-sabotage checks were conducted by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and Bomb Detection Team (BDT) with the assistance of the Dog Squad, while traffic police regulated vehicular movement and ensured smooth access for emergency responders.
As part of the exercise, one mock-injured person was evacuated from the site and shifted to AIIMS in a PCR vehicle within 20 minutes of the simulated blasts, demonstrating the efficiency of the emergency response system, police said.
The drill witnessed the participation of the NSG, Delhi Police, BDS, BDT, Dog Squad, PCR units, Tiger PCR, Traffic Police, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Service and Centralised Accident and Trauma Services. PTI BM PRK
