Chennai, Sept 13 (PTI) The MNM on Sunday questioned the Tamil Nadu government over the lack of official notification for the mandatory Area Sabha meetings scheduled to begin on September 15.
In a press release, MNM Secretary Senthil Arumugam urged the Municipal Administration department, a portfolio directly held by the Chief Minister, to take immediate action to ensure the meetings are conducted across all urban wards.
He expressed disappointment that no announcement has been made despite the approaching date.
Under government order 64, urban local bodies are required to hold Area Sabha meetings four times a year, including September 15, to function similarly to rural Gram Sabhas. These forums allow the public, elected representatives, and government officials to collaboratively address local civic issues such as drinking water, roads, schools, and healthcare infrastructure.
The party emphasised the urgent need to build public awareness to boost citizen participation across town panchayats, municipalities, and municipal corporations.
