Aizawl, May 6 (PTI) The Mizoram government and the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on Wednesday for the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) 2.0, according to official sources.

Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C R Paatil, joined the programme virtually from his office, while Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, alongside state Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister Lalnilawma and other officials, also participated via video conference from Aizawl.

The agreement was signed by PHE secretary Zodingpuii, representing the Mizoram government and Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation Joint Secretary Swati Meena Naik, the sources said.

In his virtual address, the chief minister highlighted that Mizoram is among the first Indian states to achieve 100 per cent implementation under the initial Jal Jeevan Mission, providing functional tap water connections to 133,060 households.

He noted that all schools and Anganwadi Centres across the state have also been covered.

Out of 852 sanctioned water supply schemes, 849 are physically complete, achieving nearly 99 per cent completion rate, according to officials.

Additionally, the state has established 28 water testing laboratories under the JJM programme, they said.

Lalduhoma also expressed satisfaction with the JJM 2.0 agreement, emphasising that the mission is vital to achieving the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.

However, he also urged the Ministry to expedite the release of the central share of funds for JJM, which has been pending since December 2024, the official sources said. PTI CORR RG
