Mizoram eyes ‘Silk capital’, ‘Winter capital’ status, says Lalduhoma

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Aizawl, Nov 5 (PTI) Mizoram is working towards emerging as India’s “Silk Capital” and “Winter Capital”, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said on Thursday, outlining the state government’s development vision during a review of departmental activities in Serchhip district, an official statement said.

Addressing a meeting of officials at the DC Conference Hall in Serchhip, Lalduhoma said Mizoram had already earned recognition as the “Ginger Capital of India” and is now pursuing new opportunities in silk production and winter tourism to strengthen the state’s economy.

The chief minister also highlighted the government’s plans to launch the CM Blue Mission and develop Mizoram as a digitally advanced state.

He said the state government’s vision of “Transformed Mizoram 2047” was aligned with the Centre’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.

Mizoram currently contributes around 0.1 per cent to the country’s GDP, and the government aims to raise its contribution to one per cent, he said.

Lalduhoma said that greater coordination and convergence among government departments were essential to achieving the state’s development goals.

He called for Serchhip district to work towards becoming a model district through coordinated implementation of development programmes and projects.

The meeting, described as the first district-level exercise of its kind in Mizoram, provided officials an opportunity to directly raise their concerns and implementation challenges with the chief minister.

Lalduhoma said that similar meetings would be organised in other districts as well.

Officials from 43 government offices in Serchhip district participated in the meeting, where ongoing projects, development plans, bottlenecks and proposed initiatives were reviewed, according to officials.

Measures to improve coordination and resolve implementation-related difficulties were also discussed, they said. PTI CORR RG
