Aizawl, May 15 (PTI) Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday urged members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) to partner with the government in building a better society and a more peaceful state.

Addressing a YMA conference at Khawzawl in eastern Mizoram, the chief minister said the Mizos were fortunate to have an organisation like the YMA, which unites communities and works for social welfare.

“YMA plays an irreplaceable role in safeguarding society and strengthening the state,” he said.

He highlighted the rising challenge of substance abuse among youth and lauded the YMA’s anti-drug campaign, ‘Ruihhlo Do’ (Fight Against Drugs).

He said the state government is intensifying its crackdown on narcotics while also strengthening rehabilitation efforts.

“In almost every major initiative undertaken by the government, YMA has remained one of our strongest partners,” he said, expressing gratitude for the organisation’s support.

The CM also underscored the association’s contribution to preserving Mizo cultural values and traditions, saying Mizoram’s hospitality and social values were earning widespread appreciation from tourists visiting the state.

He noted that eastern Mizoram has shown strong agricultural productivity and announced that the government is implementing several development projects to accelerate growth in the region.

Lalduhoma said a ginger unique selling proposition project worth around Rs 190 crore has been launched recently, while the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned Rs 30.13 crore for setting up a processing unit.

The facility will be established in and around Champhai for the benefit of all eastern region districts, he said. PTI CORR MNB
