Thane, May 15 (PTI) A search operation has been launched in Thane to trace a 52-year-old man feared to have drowned in a creek after he went missing, an official said on Friday.

Datta Lahu Shinalkar, a resident of the city’s Kopri area, was last seen on CCTV footage heading towards the Mithabunder creek immersion ghat around 11.45 pm on Wednesday, he said.

“The family of the missing man informed the authorities on Thursday evening, following which rescuers were sent to the spot to launch a search operation,” said Yasin Tadvi, chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell of Thane Municipal Corporation.

However, the operation was paused late Thursday night due to poor lighting conditions and a strong current in the creek, he said. It resumed on Friday morning.

“Local fisherman Prathamesh Kharkar joined the operation with a boat, and search efforts have been continuing in Mithabunder creek for nearly three hours,” Tadvi said. PTI COR NR
