Chatra, Oct 12 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Jharkhand’s Chatra district, police said on Monday.

The incident came to light after the girl was admitted to Sadar Hospital here by her family members, they said.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused, SP Animesh Naithany said.

“The victim will be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Chatra. Further action will be taken based on the CWC’s investigation report,” Naithany told PTI.

Chatra SDPO Sunny Vardhan said that based on statements of the girl and her parents, a Zero FIR was registered under the POCSO Act at Sadar police station on Monday. Subsequently, the case will be transferred to Lawalong police station for further investigation.

“The victim told the police that a man from her village lured her into a relationship and sexually exploited the girl,” said Narmadeshwar Singh, CWC chairman, Chatra.

“The minor was admitted to the hospital around 8 pm on Saturday after complaints of pain and bleeding,” Chatra Sadar Hospital Superintendent Manish Lal said.

During her medical examination, the girl was found to be one-month pregnant, he said. PTI CORR RPS RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
