Bengaluru, Jun 12 (PTI) Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Friday said an action plan would be formulated with a focus on road safety, stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, and improving the efficiency of the traffic police.

He visited the Bengaluru Traffic Management Centre and held discussions with senior officials on the city’s traffic management system.

The meeting was attended by Director General and Inspector General of Police M A Saleem, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh, and other senior officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Priyank said Bengaluru’s traffic was being managed effectively through the use of modern technology and that efforts would be made to further improve operational efficiency in the coming days.

According to a statement issued by the minister’s office, senior police officials informed the minister that while Bengaluru’s annual population growth rate stands at 3.7 per cent, the vehicle growth rate is around 10 per cent.

As a leading centre for employment generation and economic activity, Bengaluru has developed an effective traffic management system.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police, functioning across four divisions and operating 53 police stations, manages traffic on a road network spanning approximately 14,000 kilometres.

Officials said the city has around 1.25 crore registered vehicles.

Priyank also visited the Traffic Police Museum and the Camera Tracking Division, where he observed their operations, the statement added. PTI AMP SSK
