Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 21 (PTI) Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has directed the Police Welfare Bureau to provide financial assistance for the treatment of two personnel who lost their legs in a road accident while on highway patrol duty in Kasaragod district.
An initial amount of Rs 5 lakh each will be sanctioned for the treatment of the injured officers, Suraj and Aloysius, who are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru, the home minister’s office said in a statement on Sunday.
The minister also sought details about their health condition and directed officials to ensure that they receive the best possible medical care.
Chennithala instructed the department to provide them with suitable postings when they return to duty after recovery.
The two policemen suffered grievous injuries when a car rammed into a police jeep that had been parked during highway patrol duty near Kanhangad.
Their injuries resulted in the amputation of their legs.
The minister said that the government would stand by police personnel who are injured in accidents while discharging their duties and would ensure that they receive the necessary support and assistance, the statement added. PTI LGK SSK
