New Delhi, May 13 (PTI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has issued an advisory on Wednesday asking its officers and staff to maximise the use of public transport and adopt carpooling arrangements in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation and sustainable practices.

The advisory, issued by the office of the additional commissioner, said the move aims to reduce vehicular pollution, traffic congestion, fuel consumption, and avoid unnecessary travel.

According to the advisory, all officers and officials have been advised to preferably use public transport systems such as the Metro, buses and other shared transport facilities for daily commuting.

The civic body has also asked staff residing in nearby localities to coordinate and adopt carpooling arrangements to minimise the use of individual vehicles.

“Unnecessary use of personal vehicles, particularly for routine commuting and non-essential movement, should be avoided,” the advisory read.

It further directed that, as far as possible, official meetings, review meetings, consultations and inter-departmental discussions be conducted through video conferencing or virtual platforms to reduce avoidable travel and save time and resources.

Heads of departments and controlling officers have been asked to sensitise staff under their control regarding sustainable and eco-friendly practices, including the use of public transport, carpooling and virtual platforms, advisory read.

The MCD said the initiative is expected to contribute to a reduction in carbon emissions, fuel conservation, environmental protection and easing traffic congestion in the national capital.

All officers and officials have been requested to extend full cooperation and actively participate in the initiative in the larger public interest, the advisory said. PTI VBH VBH MPL MPL
