Chandigarh, Aug 1 (PTI) Akali Dal MLA Ganieve Kaur Majithia on Saturday wrote to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, seeking his directions on whether she should attend the upcoming assembly session after his edict declaring Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann ‘guru dokhi’ (anti-Guru) and anti-khalsa panth over an objectionable video.
The jathedar, in his June 15 edict, had asked the Sikh community to distance itself from the chief minister.
Majithia also highlighted that the AAP government has not made necessary amendments in the anti-sacrilege law — the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026 — as per instructions of the Akal Takht.
Majithia said besides being an elected MLA, she is first and foremost a humble Sikh. For her, a balance between constitutional responsibilities and commitment to ‘Gurmat’ (Guru’s way) is possible only when she takes steps as per the guidance of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of Sikhs, she wrote.
Under such circumstances, seeing a person declared ‘guru dokhi’ goes against her conscience and religious faith, said Majithia, who is the wife of SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
She further wrote that when the Akal Takht has given a clear religious order regarding the CM and the orders of the Akal Takht are also being continuously ignored by the government.
As a Sikh and a dedicated servant of the Akal Takht, she said she does not seem fit to attend the Vidhan Sabha session.
Majithia said the highest command in the world is the command of the Guru, so the order of the Akal Takht will be her final guidance. She would accept whatever order she gets from the highest temporal seat, the SAD leader wrote.
