Amritsar, June 28 (PTI) Punjab Congress leaders on Sunday staged a protest near Town Hall here, accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of challenging the authority of the Akal Takht Sahib and refusing to abide by its directions.
Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Partap Singh Bajwa, who was leading the protest, said Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the highest temporal seat of the Sikh Panth, has declared Mann as ‘Guru Dokhi’ (anti-Guru) and ‘Panth Virodhi’ (anti-Panth).
Every ‘Nanak Naam Leva’ must respect and follow the directives issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, he said.
The Congress leader said once Sri Akal Takht Sahib pronounces its decision, it is the moral and religious duty of every Sikh to honour it.
He said Mann should be ostracised socially and politically until he accepts the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and sincerely atones for his actions.
Criticising the Aam Aadmi Party national convener, Bajwa said Arvind Kejriwal was fully aware of Mann’s alleged disgraceful conduct, yet chose to retain him as the chief minister.
“By shielding Mann despite knowing the facts, Kejriwal has become equally responsible for undermining the dignity and sanctity of Punjab’s revered institutions,” Bajwa alleged.
The Congress leaders pledged to continue raising their voice against any attempt to undermine Sri Akal Takht Sahib’s authority.
Senior Congress leaders OP Soni, Sukhwinder Singh Sarkaria, Jasbir Singh Dimpa, Sukhwinder Singh Danny Bandala, Harpartap Singh Ajnala, Harminder Singh Gill, Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Sunil Dutti, Dinesh Bassi, Mamta Dutta and others participated in the event. PTI CHS ASD ASD
