Imphal, Aug 10 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Monday reviewed the law and order situation along the state’s national highways, days after announcing plans to reopen the routes for all communities.
Singh chaired a Combined Headquarters (Unified Command) meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in the presence of the Chief Secretary, Security Adviser, DGP, Commissioner (Home) and senior officials of the state police, Assam Rifles, Army and CAPFs.
The meeting reviewed the prevailing law and order situation along the highways and discussed measures to prevent any attempts to disrupt peace and normal movement, Singh said in a social media post.
The meeting came three days after Singh, during a visit to Kangpokpi district, announced that the national highways would be reopened for all communities and that the Imphal-Guwahati bus service would resume.
Movement of commuters along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and NH-37 (Imphal-Silchar) has been severely affected since ethnic violence broke out in the state in May 2023.
Movement of goods along NH-2, a major lifeline for the state, has also been affected by a blockade by Naga groups demanding justice over the killing of six members of the community by armed persons in May this year.
“Our government remains steadfast in ensuring safe, secure and uninterrupted movement of passengers and essential goods on the highways, while strengthening peace, stability and normalcy across Manipur,” Singh said. PTI CORR SOM
