Manipur CM felicitates 2 districts for achieving ‘Surakshit’ status under HIV initiative

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Imphal, Nov 6 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Friday felicitated Imphal West and Pherzawl districts for achieving ‘Surakshit’ status under the Mobilisation for AIDS Suraksha initiative of the National AIDS Control Organisation, an official statement said.

The felicitation ceremony, titled ‘Sammaan Samaaroh’, was organised by the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) at the Chief Minister’s Office.

Congratulating the two districts on the achievement, Singh urged health department officials to make concerted efforts to ensure that the remaining districts also attain ‘Surakshit’ status.

Commissioner (Health and Family Welfare) and MACS president Sumant Singh said the society had, for the first time, achieved the target of securing ‘Surakshit’ (safe) status in certain districts of the state.

He explained that the achievement meant 95 per cent of the estimated number of people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) in a district were aware of their HIV status, 95 per cent of those aware of their status were receiving Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), and 95 per cent of those undergoing ART had achieved viral suppression.

“This indicates that the virus is effectively controlled among those who have achieved viral suppression,” he added. PTI COR MNB
