New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) Mangroves must be conserved as living ecosystems, given their importance for coastal biodiversity, fisheries, shoreline protection, climate resilience and livelihoods, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said on Sunday.
The minister also emphasised restoration, scientific management, community participation and technology-enabled monitoring of mangroves.
Yadav made these comments while addressing the Workshop on Mangrove Conservation, Restoration and Sustainable Management held at Bhuj in Gujarat’s Kachchh.
At the event, he released the Mangroves Atlas of Gujarat and launched the Mangrove GIS (MGIS) Portal.
The minister stated that these would strengthen science-based decision-making and monitoring of mangrove habitats across the state. PTI ALC APL APL
