Surat, Aug 6 (PTI) A 26-year-old Navi Mumbai resident accused of stealing gold ornaments, cash and luxury wristwatches valued at more than Rs 44 lakh has been detained by police in Gujarat’s Surat city, officials said on Thursday.
The accused, Kamaljeetsingh Bangu, was intercepted at a police check post in Surat on Wednesday following a tip-off. During a search, police recovered stolen goods valued at Rs 44,12,620, including gold ornaments, cash, a mobile phone and two wristwatches,” Saroli inspector S R Vekariya said.
Preliminary investigation revealed the recovered valuables were linked to six previously undetected house-breaking cases registered at the MHB Colony Police Station in Mumbai, he said.
Bangu also confessed to carrying out thefts at two locked homes in a housing society which falls under the jurisdiction of MHB Colony Police Station, Vekariya said.
According to police, the accused faces seven FIRs for a range of offences, including house-breaking, burglary, theft and house trespass.
Bangu will be handed over to MHB Colony Police Station personnel in Mumbai for further investigation in cases against him, the Inspector added. PTI KVM RSY
