Mangaluru (Karnataka), Aug 31 (PTI) A 40-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his younger brother over a mobile phone here, police said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Adivappa, while his 36-year-old brother Raju was the accused, they said.
The incident occurred near Kottara Cross in Mangaluru late Sunday night, police said.
According to police, the brothers, natives of Bailhongal in Belagavi district, lived with their mother in a rented house near Kottara Cross.
Their mother ran a small roadside shop, while the brothers worked as daily-wage labourers.
Police said the brothers were allegedly addicted to alcohol.
A quarrel broke out between the two over a mobile phone between 10.30 pm and 11 pm on Sunday and soon escalated into a physical altercation.
During the fight, Raju allegedly stabbed Adivappa with a knife, a senior police officer said.
Their mother returned home after closing her shop and found Adivappa lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to Wenlock Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, the officer said.
Personnel from the Urwa police station visited the scene and conducted an inspection.
