Pratapgarh (UP), Aug 22 (PTI) A man and his nephew drowned on Saturday evening while fishing near Mendholi Market in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district, a police official said.

According to the police, the uncle’s body has been recovered, while the search for the nephew’s body is going on.

Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said that Lalle (25), a resident of the village, was fishing in a drain near Mendholi Market on Saturday evening. When he ventured into deep water and began to drown, his uncle, Nanhe Vishwakarma (45), jumped in to save him but also drowned due to the great depth and strong current.

Upon receiving the information, police arrived along with the fire brigade to begin rescue attempts.

After a strenuous effort, the fire brigade and villagers recovered Nanhe Vishwakarma’s body. However, despite a search continuing until 8 pm, Lalle’s body could not be found.

The search was halted due to darkness and will resume in the morning.

The body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem examination, police said. PTI COR NAV MPL MPL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
