Hardoi (UP), Oct 11 (PTI) A man allegedly killed his 27-year-old wife with an axe after finding her with another man at their residence in Hardoi district on Sunday, police said.

The accused, identified as Lalla, surrendered before police after the incident, they said.

The incident took place in the City police station area, where Lalla had been living with his wife Durga and their five-year-old son Lucky in a room and a thatched shed near the Sharda canal, where he ran a flour mill.

According to villagers, Lalla had gone out on Sunday morning. On returning, he allegedly found his wife with a man from the same village, who runs a shop near the Sharda canal bridge.

The man fled from the spot after Lalla saw them, following which an argument broke out between the couple, villagers said.

Lalla allegedly assaulted Durga, dragged her out of the room and threw her to the ground before repeatedly striking her neck with an axe, resulting in her death, they said.

After the incident, Lalla accused his wife of infidelity and surrendered before the police.

On receiving information, senior police officials reached the spot. A forensic team also inspected the scene and collected evidence.

The police took custody of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination.

Additional Superintendent of Police Subodh Gautam said the matter was being investigated. Police are also probing the role of the other man and other aspects of the incident, officials said. PTI COR ABN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
