Nagpur, Sep 12 (PTI) A 42-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her father-in-law as he suspected her of practising black magic in Pahune Layout area of the city on Saturday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Lakshmi Ravishankar Pali.
Natthumal Bhagwan Pali (70) allegedly struck her on the head with an axe during an argument and later tried to end his life by jumping into a well, but was rescued.
“Natthumal suspected Lakshmi of performing black magic on his son Ravishankar, causing his death in 2019. She had been living separately since then. The two frequently quarrelled,” a police official said.
As per the preliminary probe, they had a quarrel on Friday night.
“On Saturday afternoon, an argument broke out again. Natthumal picked up an axe lying nearby and attacked Lakshmi. She died on the spot,” the police official said.
After the murder, Natthumal jumped into a well. Fire brigade personnel rescued him and admitted him to Mayo Hospital. His condition was said to be critical.
