Hyderabad, Sep 18 (PTI) A 29-year-old man was apprehended here by Telangana’s anti-narcotics unit–EAGLE Force and 14 Ecstasy pills weighing approximately nine grams were seized from him, officials said on Friday.
Acting on credible information, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), apprehended the suspected drug peddler near Miyapur Metro Station and unearthed Goa-Mumbai drug supply links, an official release said.
The accused, a native of Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district of Telangana was presently residing in Hyderabad.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused procured drugs from a person known as “Baba”, reportedly based in Goa, through cash transactions. He subsequently came into contact with another resident of Mumbai, who visited Goa and is involved in drug sales, it said.
The investigation is presently focused on establishing the complete supply chain, including the source, suppliers, customers, financial transactions and other persons connected with the network, it further said.
About 10 days prior to his apprehension, two of the acquaintances of suspected drug peddler, contacted him seeking Ecstasy pills in Hyderabad. The accused then allegedly travelled to Mumbai on September 16, where he purchased 29 Ecstasy pills (MDMA) for Rs 22,500 through bank transfer, at an rate of Rs 750 per pill, the release said.
While in Mumbai, he sold 15 Ecstasy pills to another acquaintance and travelled to Hyderabad carrying the remaining 14 pills for further supply.
When the accused was passing through the vicinity of Miyapur Metro Station, the EAGLE Force team intercepted and apprehended him. During the operation, 14 Ecstasy pills weighing approximately nine grams and two mobile phones were seized.
The alleged drug suppliers of Goa and Mumbai are presently absconding and further investigation is underway to trace and apprehend them, it said.
Police are also examining the seized mobile phones and other available evidence to identify additional persons involved in the procurement, transportation and distribution of the drug.
A case was registered at Miyapur Police Station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is in progress, the release added. PTI VVK VVK KH
