Bengaluru, Aug 15 (PTI) Police in Bengaluru have arrested a 25-year-old man hailing from West Bengal who allegedly conspired with a member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to join the outfit and plan retaliatory attacks against the Pakistan Army and India, according to a press release issued by police.
Asaful Mallik, son of Abed Mallik, was taken into custody from the Bommasandra Industrial Area on August 11 after police received information that he was allegedly conspiring to attack the Pakistan Army.
Mallik was residing in Jigani and worked as a security guard, the release said.
Police said Mallik had got in touch with Imran Ahinder from Afghanistan, a member of the TTP, through Facebook.
The release said Mallik was allegedly influenced by what he perceived as atrocities by the Pakistan Army against mosques and people in Pakistan, as well as its alleged support for Israel in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
“With the intention of joining the said organisation and taking revenge against the Pakistan Army and here also, he had obtained the assistance of Imran Ahinder and obtained a passport and applied for a visa to go to Afghanistan. However, due to certain reasons, he did not go to Afghanistan,” the release said.
Evidence in the form of messages and audio recordings relating to Mallik’s intention to take revenge against the Pakistan Army was found on his mobile phone, it added.
Mallik has been arrested and further investigation is underway, police said.
A case has been registered at the Hebbagodi police station under section 113(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for hatching a conspiracy, abetment, attempt, advocacy, incitement or knowing facilitation of a terrorist act.
Mallik was residing near the APC Circle in Jigani, Bengaluru, while his permanent address is Naupar village in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. PTI GMS RC
