Vidisha (MP), Oct 26 (PTI) A 65-year-old man died allegedly of electrocution after coming in contact with a high-tension power line while spitting over it in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, an official said on Monday.

The incident occurred on October 23 at a locality in Ganj Basoda, about 50 kilometres from the district headquarters, he said.

Prabhu Lal Gupta was making a cupboard at a house on the third floor of a building in Motiya Nala Par Basti and went to the balcony to spit out his gutkha when he came in contact with the 11 kV electricity line. He suffered an electric shock and died on the spot, his landlord Padma Chidhar said.

Gupta had been living in the house as a tenant for the past several years, he said.

A case has been registered, and an investigation has been initiated into the electrocution incident, Ganj Basoda police station in-charge Sanjay Bedia said.

Local councillor Manish Vishwakarma said the Electricity Board had been informed several times about the high-tension line problem, but despite numerous accidents, the issue had not been resolved.

If the problem is not resolved soon, a protest will be held before the electricity company officials, he added. PTI COR MAS GK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
