Beed, Jul 28 (PTI) A 70-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death by his son following a heated dispute over financial matters in the family in Maharashtra’s Beed district, police said.
The incident took place at Chinchvan in Wadwani tehsil on Monday evening, and the accused has been arrested, they said.
Accused Phulchand Kothule (45) killed his father Shrikisan Kothule, and has been booked for murder.
According to police, the confrontation erupted over a financial matter after a family motorcycle was handed over to help settle an outstanding debt. Agitated by the decision, Phulchand began verbally abusing his family members, including his wife and younger son, and attempted to assault them.
When Shrikisan stepped in to mediate and de-escalate the quarrel, Phulchand turned his aggression toward his father. Police said the suspect dragged the elderly man out of a tin shed into the open courtyard, pushed him to the ground, and repeatedly struck him on the face and head with a brick, a police official said.
Family members immediately rushed the severely injured man to a rural hospital, from where he was referred to the District Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s grandson, the police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Phulchand.
The police official said the accused has been arrested and further investigation into the incident is underway. PTI COR NP
