New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Monday backed Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over his remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sharing a video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother cannot stop the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), she accused the BJP of double standards in its response to political attacks.

A controversy erupted after Kharge, at an event in Patna on Sunday, said, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega, baap bhi jayega (Even Modi’s father would go),” while responding to an audience member who said Modi would not go.

Moitra posted a series of messages on X.

“Why only the father? Even the father’s father will go. Well said, Kharge ji. We assure you that we will fight this till the end,” she wrote in a post.

Taking a swipe at the BJP’s slogan, she wrote further, “BJP: Modi will come to power. India: Modi and his father will go.”

The Trinamool Congress MP also shared a video in which Amit Shah is heard saying that Rahul Gandhi’s grandmother could not stop the CAA.

“The BJP and Godi media loved it. Today Kharge said Modi’s father will also go (and yes, Adani will go). Accept it, folks. What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander,” Moitra said.

In another post apparently directed at Shah, she said, “Go and steal some more votes and come back. You’ll remember.” PTI AO RUK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
