New Delhi: Maharashtra has the highest number of industrial parks in the Leaders category out of all the participating states, according to the Industrial Park Rating System (IPRS) report released by the Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Som Parkash Tuesday.

Out of the 30 parks nominated by the state, 27 have been rated as Leaders (parks registering the highest level of performance at an aggregate level) while three parks have been rated as Challengers (parks and zones registering performance level quite close to leaders, but marginally lower at the aggregate level).

The exercise relied on four key pillars to assess industrial infrastructure — Internal Infrastructure (42% weightage), which is further divided into utilities (11%), common infrastructure (22%), and value-added infrastructure (9%); External Infrastructure and connectivity (4% weightage); Business Support Services (20% weightage); and Environmental and Safety Management (34% weightage).

The report assessed 399 industrial parks and 50 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) from across the country on 45 parameters under the above-mentioned pillars based on the nominations provided by State Industrial Development Corporations (SIDCs)/Union Territories (UTs)/Central departments. The number of maximum nominations per state/UTs/central department was capped at 30.

Out of the 399 parks, 68 Industrial Parks have been assessed as “Leaders” in the IPRS report released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), out of which 27 parks are based in Maharashtra.

The IPRS exercise, introduced by DPIIT in 2018, aims to enhance industrial infrastructure competitiveness and support policy development for enabling industrialisation across the country and acts as a key enabler for identifying additional measures to enhance industrial competitiveness.
