Maharashtra lifts all Covid restrictions, makes masks optional

There will now be no restrictions state-wide in movie theatres, shopping complexes, restaurants, bars and sports complexes.

New Delhi: Maharashtra lifted all Covid restrictions in the state Thursday.

The unanimous decision, taken in a Cabinet meeting, has also made face masks optional. The new rules will be effective from April 2.

The Uddhav Thackeray government revoked the Epidemic Diseases Act and the Disaster Management Act that were in force for two years of the pandemic.

Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad tweeted that people were free to celebrate Marathi New Year Gudi Padwa, Ramzan and Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti without restrictions.

There will now be no restrictions state-wide in movie theatres, shopping complexes, restaurants, bars and sports complexes.
