Latur, Oct 20 (PTI) With Latur district in Maharashtra reeling under drought conditions, former state minister and BJP MLA Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar has pledged his entire one year’s honorarium towards relief for drought-hit people.

He made this announcement in video released on Dussehra on Tuesday.

The move comes as rural communities face mounting difficulties due to water scarcity, while farmers struggle to arrange fodder to sustain their livestock.

“Farmers and people in rural areas are struggling for drinking water and to sustain their livestock. I have taken the first step towards addressing this crisis by dedicating my honorarium for a year. The challenge is immense, and I seek the support of every section of society. Everyone should contribute in whatever way possible and stand firmly with drought-affected people during this difficult period,” he said.

The legislator from Nilanga assembly seat said the funds would primarily be used to ensure drinking water supplies for affected residents, arrange water tankers and provide fodder for livestock at cattle camps. PTI COR NP

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
