Maha: Cops foil child marriage bid in Palghar

Palghar, May 27 (PTI) The police in Maharashtra’s Palghar district foiled a child marriage attempt and rescued an underage girl, an official said on Saturday.

The district rural police had received a tip-off that an underage girl was to be marries to a man at a premises near Palghar court and a team in plain clothes reached the venue on Friday evening, sub-divisional police officer Neeta Padvi said.

The groom was 19 years old, while the girl was under 18 years, she said.

The police team rescued the girl, who was sent to the women and child welfare committee and was later lodged with an NGO in Virar, the official said.

The Palghar police will take further action in the matter, she said. PTI COR ARU ARU
