Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 26 (PTI) Leader of Opposition in the Keralam assembly Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday congratulated Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for his historic fourth win as Brazil’s president, saying that his victory reaffirms the “enduring relevance of Left politics”.

Vijayan, in an X post, said that Lula da Silva’s continued electoral success also affirms the relevance of the working class’s power to shape its own future.

“From Brazil to India, the lesson is clear that confronting the far right requires a systemic alternative rooted in workers’ rights, social justice and equality,” he said.

The Marxist veteran further said that Lula’s victory renews hope in the struggle against the Sangh Parivar’s alleged divisive politics and “for a more just and democratic India”.

With 100 per cent of the vote counted, Brazil’s electoral court announced that Lula, a member of the Workers’ Party, had a lead of nearly 4.4 million votes — 51.8 per cent of the total vote — over opponent Flávio Bolsonaro. PTI HMP ROH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
