Jamshedpur/Dhanbad, May 14 (PTI) People crowded fuel stations in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad and Jamshedpur amid rumours of shortage in petrol and diesel, prompting the local administrations to urge the public to refrain from panic buying and not pay heed to any misinformation.

Serpentine queues of two-wheelers and cars were seen at almost all fuel stations at these two places, even as representatives of oil companies asserted that there was no shortage.

In Jamshedpur, East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey held a meeting with senior district officials, representatives of oil companies, and petrol pump operators to discuss the prevailing situation.

There was no need for panic buying, officials said, as the SSP urged people to buy fuel as per their requirement.

The supply of petrol and diesel is normal in the district, but the panic buying is creating unnecessary pressure on the administration, Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan said.

In Dhanbad district, Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan held a meeting with officials of petroleum companies to review the fuel supply situation in the district.

The company representatives said there was no shortage in the supply of petrol and diesel, and the sudden rush at pumps was due to rumours, an official release stated.

Dhanbad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Prabhat Kumar said heavy crowds and long queues witnessed at several fuel stations were due to rumours.

“Do not panic, the supply of petrol-diesel in the district is normal. Appeal to people to take oil as per need and avoid rumours,” he posted on X. PTI BS SAN NSD
