Bengaluru, Aug 11 (PTI) The Karnataka Lokayukta on Tuesday conducted simultaneous inspections of Treasuries and offices in Bengaluru amid complaints of corruption and irregularities in the processing and distribution of bills.
The inspections, which began at 4.15 pm, were undertaken after the Lokayukta took cognisance on its own of complaints concerning seven Treasuries in Bengaluru Urban district, five Treasuries in Bengaluru Rural district and offices of the KGID Department.
According to the Lokayukta office, complaints were received that officials were disregarding the First In, First Out (FIFO) system and the Round Robin method prescribed in the Treasury-2 software for transparent and equitable distribution of bills among staff.
“Although the FIFO and Round Robin systems are in operation in the Treasury-2 software, the procedures are being disregarded in the Treasuries and bills are being handled arbitrarily according to convenience, resulting in corruption,” the Lokayukta office said.
It also said complaints had been received that Detailed Contingent (DC) bills were being withheld at the Front Office in the name of scrutiny, besides several other irregularities in the provision of day-to-day services.
The Lokayukta constituted 13 teams comprising 11 judicial officers, 39 police officers, the Lokayukta Secretary and two Personal Secretaries to the Upalokayuktas to conduct the inspections.
Lokayukta Justice B S Patil inspected the State Huzur Treasury at KR Circle, Bengaluru, while Upalokayukta-1 Justice K N Phaneendra inspected the KGID office at Visvesvaraya Tower and other Treasuries.
Upalokayukta-2 Justice B Veerappa inspected the Bengaluru North Treasury at Malleswaram, Yelahanka and other Treasuries.
Additional Director General of Police of the Karnataka Lokayukta Manish Kharbikar also conducted an inspection at the Bengaluru City Treasury office in Revenue Bhavan, the release said. PTI GMS ROH
