Nahan (HP), Jun 28 (PTI) A local outfit leader was booked in Sirmaur for allegedly making adverse remarks on the Sikhs, police on Sunday said.

Uttarakhand Kranti Dal leader Ashish Negi was booked under Section 299 of the BNS at the complaint of Paonta resident Paramjit Singh Banga.

According to the police, Negi had remarked on the Karnprayag altercation between locals and Nihangs, which riled up a section of the sect.

Negi allegedly posted a video on social media, saying, “Khalisthan movement, Uttrakhand mein Chala ja Raha Hai.” Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class of citizens. It is the equivalent of Section 295A of the former Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to police sources, Paonta police have not made any arrests so far and are examining the video in question.

In another video shared widely on social media, Negi said, “My video is being distorted and shown in pieces to create sensation and create a situation of anarchy.” He said he has not said anything that would hurt anyone’s sentiments.

Recently, a local court in Karnaprayag, Uttarakhand, granted bail to four Nihangs involved in a violent row with locals in the state’s Chamoli, Uttarakhand.

The bail came on the heels of a dramatic five-day standoff with the police created by more than 300 Nihangs gathered at the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border. PTI COR BPL VN VN
