Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu), Aug 23 (PTI) DMK Lok Sabha member Kanimozhi on Sunday targeted the state government over the prevailing law and order situation, alleging a significant surge in crimes.

She also claimed that the Legislative Assembly is being conducted merely to create “reels”.

Addressing reporters here, the parliamentarian stated, “Since the TVK took charge, crimes have been continuously increasing. Crimes against women and children, honour killings, and deaths following police arrests — we are witnessing a situation where law and order has deteriorated,” she said.

Kanimozhi further alleged that perpetrators in several of these offences were associated with the ruling establishment.

“While action is initiated in a few instances, no steps are taken when fingers are pointed at key party office-bearers and functionaries facing allegations,” she added.

Responding to media queries on the functioning of the state government, she remarked, “They are creating the feeling that the Legislative Assembly itself is being run only for reels”. PTI JR KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
