New Delhi, July 23 (PTI) Delhi LG Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday launched ‘National Model School Safety Toolkit,’ saying school safety in current times also includes cybersecurity, students’ mental well-being, and preparedness for disaster situations.
He called for a comprehensive, future-ready approach to school safety and resilience, addressing the National Summit on Safe Schools Leadership 2026 at PHD House here.
He said the school safety toolkit is a key step towards institutionalising a culture of prevention and preparedness across schools.
He highlighted its significance as Delhi observes Child Safety Month this July, according to a note from the LG office. The meaning of school safety has evolved significantly over the years.
While physical infrastructure, fire preparedness, and emergency response remain critical, he said, adding that safety also encompasses cyber security, mental well-being, transportation safety, and the capacity to respond effectively to unforeseen situations.
Delhi, as the national capital, with its dense urban environment and diverse population, carries a special responsibility to lead by example in creating safe, inclusive, and resilient learning environments, he said.
The LG called upon school leaders to view safety not merely as a regulatory requirement, but as an integral part of institutional leadership, requiring regular safety audits, emergency preparedness plans, periodic mock drills, trained staff, and close coordination with government agencies and local communities.
