Shimla, Jun 4 (PTI) Congress leader Neeraj Bharti on Thursday submitted his resignation from the post of vice president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, expressing dissatisfaction over the working style and administrative functioning of the government in the state.

Bharti is a former MLA from the Jawali assembly constituency in Kangra district and the son of state Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar.

While tendering the resignation, he said, “I feel dissatisfied with the working style and administrative functioning of the current state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.” Bharti sent a two-page resignation letter written in Hindi to Congress state president Vinay Kumar and district president Anurag Thakur, while also sharing it on his Facebook account.

“I hereby submit my resignation from the post of the vice president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect,” the letter read.

Bharti wrote that in the past three years, the government has “let down the hardworking, resilient and dedicated Congress workers who fought against all odds and played a pivotal role in establishing the Congress government”.

He claimed that it is unfortunate that numerous grassroots-level, loyal, and hardcore party workers who struggled for the party, fought battles among the masses and staked their time, energy and reputation to propel Congress into power are today feeling unheard, helpless and abandoned.

Bharti said he is stepping down from organisational responsibilities due to the “increasing gap between the government and the grassroots workers” which has become a source of deep disappointment and frustration.

In another Facebook post, the leader said he takes pride in having served as a chief parliamentary secretary in former chief minister Virbhadra Singh’s government when matters of public interest were dealt with utmost seriousness. Alleging that the situation is starkly different today, he said it is characterised by excuses for every issue, justifications for every shortcoming and complaints about a lack of funds.

“The decision was not easy as I have always worked with absolute sincerity and dedication to strengthen the party organisation and have fought against the BJP and toiled day and night with thousands of dedicated Congress workers to bring the Congress party back to power,” he said.

Earlier, in June 2025, Bharti posted on Facebook that his father Chander Kumar would resign from the Cabinet over the issues regarding transfers and adjustments in his assembly constituency Jawali.

Later, in another post, he had said that the chief minister had given an assurance pertaining to the issues. PTI BPL PRK
