Kolkata, Apr 26 (PTI) To bring all hotels and restaurants of the state under one umbrella, leading local players of the hospitality industry have come together to form Bengal Association of Hotels and Restaurants (BAHR).

Debaditya Chaudhury, the Secretary-General, BAHR said an association will address localized problems and also encourage and support the growth for entrepreneurs that will add to the development of the hospitality industry in state.

He said BAHR will be the parent body of the local hospitality sector, a consortium formed with the aim of bringing together all hotels and restaurants of West Bengal.

“Keeping in mind the development and progress of the hospitality industry of West Bengal, BAHR will act as the collective voice for hotels and restaurants in the state. A non-government association, BAHR will represent the ambassadors of the industry who induce integrity and quality of work in the field of hotels and restaurants management across all districts of West Bengal,” Chaudhury, who co-owns two prominent restaurant chains in city said.

The platform was formed on April 22 in the presence of West Bengal Finance Minister (Independent) charge Chandrima Bhattacharya at a function in the city.

“BAHR’s long-term mission is to build a new brand of Bengal that highlights the food and hospitality sector creating a destination for both foreign and domestic tourists. This will eventually provide better opportunities for the known players of the industry and new entrants,” chairman of BAHR, Dr Suborno Bose, said.

“Such an association will address localized problems and also encourage and support the growth for entrepreneurs that will add to the development of the hospitality industry in Bengal,” Bose, a prominent hospitality industry figure, added.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Eastern India is the representative body of the hospitality sector in the region so far.

HRAEI President Sudesh Poddar could not be contacted for his response about the new body.

However, another HRAEI office-bearer said any body which will project the concern of the industry players and protect its concerns is welcome. PTI SUS RG RG
