Chennai, Sep 9 (PTI) Leaders of the ruling TVK-led alliance arrived at Panaiyur here on Wednesday for a crucial coordination meeting chaired by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

Notably absent from the arrivals were representatives of the Left parties. Both the CPI(M) and the CPI opted to skip the meeting to be held at TVK headquarters in Panaiyur.

The CPI(M) has previously clarified that its backing of the TVK government remains an issue-based, outside support, preferring to maintain its distance from a formal alliance structure without cabinet representation.

Senior representatives from the Congress, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) have arrived for the meeting.

The agenda for Wednesday’s meeting, the second major gathering since the post-poll coalition formed the government, focuses on formalising the alliance structure. Key discussions are expected to centre on drafting a Common Minimum Programme, setting up a steering committee, and finalising an official name for the bloc. PTI JR KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
