Thiruvananthapuram, May 2 (PTI) CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan on Saturday expressed confidence that the LDF would form the government for a third consecutive term when votes are counted on May 4.
Speaking to reporters, Govindan said a close analysis of exit polls indicated that the LDF would return to power.
He said surveys had also found Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to be the most popular politician in the state and that people wanted him to continue in office.
“The exit polls have confirmed that there is no wave favouring the UDF. Exit polls have predicted 60–69 seats for the LDF, with just two more seats needed to come to power. But if we look closely at those surveys, the LDF has the upper hand in several seats where a UDF victory is predicted,” he said.
He added that the survey results also showed there was no anti-incumbency factor in the election, contrary to the UDF’s claims of winning over 100 seats.
Govindan said he was confident that the LDF would begin its third term in government on May 4.
He also took a swipe at the Congress, saying that even before the election results were announced, party leaders were discussing who would become chief minister and making arrangements for ministers’ personal staff.
Polling for the 140 Assembly constituencies in Kerala was held on April 9, and votes will be counted on May 4.
The LDF has been in power in Kerala for the past 10 years, having won the 2016 and 2021 Assembly elections. PTI TBA SSK
