Latur, Jul 31 (PTI) Latur police returned 775 lost mobile phones to owners till July 31 this year under a special drive, an official said on Friday.
A total of 2,365 missing devices were blocked through Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system to prevent their misuse, the official added.
Through technical analysis, IMEI-based tracking and cyber investigation, 775 devices were traced and returned to their owners after completing legal formalities, he said.
The initiative was carried out with coordinated efforts by the cyber cell, sub-divisional police officers and all police stations in the district, the official said.
“Mobile phones have become indispensable for banking, digital payments, education, healthcare, official work and storage of personal information. Besides financial loss, losing a mobile phone also raises concerns over misuse of sensitive personal data. The campaign aims to provide timely relief to citizens,” he said.
Citizens must immediately report the loss of a mobile phone at the nearest police station and proceed to block the device through the CEIR portal using its IMEI number, the official advised. PTI COR BNM
