Ramanagara (Karnataka), Oct 16 (PTI) Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday sought an investigation by the ED and the I-T Department into the alleged expenditure of Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore on a “sting” operation targeting a former chief minister, questioning the source and movement of funds.

Speaking to reporters at Bidadi in Ramanagara district, Kumaraswamy referred to the statement by Leader of the Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka that Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore had allegedly been spent on the operation and said the matter warranted a thorough probe.

“Why are you limiting the discussion to the amount of money involved? If the entire matter comes out, it could seriously damage the state’s reputation. The situation has reached a point where the implications go far beyond the figures being discussed,” he said.

Alleging that the financial transactions involved could exceed Rs 15 crore, Kumaraswamy said an ED investigation could establish the source of the money and trace its movement.

“If the ED steps in, the truth will come out. An investigation can establish how the money was sourced and how the funds moved,” he said. PTI GMS KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
