Kolkata, Jul 15 (PTI) A 15-year-old girl and two women were rescued after Kolkata Police busted an alleged sex racket operating from a hotel in the southern part of the city’s Kasba area, leading to the arrest of four persons, a senior officer said on Wednesday.
Two traffickers and the hotel’s manager and receptionist are among the arrested, he said.
The operation was carried out following a tip-off received through an NGO about alleged prostitution being run from the hotel, the officer said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that customers were allegedly lured through social media, while girls and young women from suburban areas were brought to the city on the promise of jobs and later forced into the sex trade, the officer added.
Acting on information, detectives laid a trap and raided the hotel, rescuing the minor and two women.
“A prompt operation was conducted based on credible intelligence. Two women and a minor were rescued, and four persons have been arrested. We are investigating the trafficking network to identify other persons involved and ascertain whether more victims were targeted through similar methods,” the officer said.
The rescued minor has been provided with the necessary assistance and will be produced before the appropriate authorities in accordance with legal procedures, he said. PTI SCH MNB
