New Delhi: The Delhi Police Crime Branch, as the result of a joint operation with Rajasthan Police, has arrested three including the duo who killed Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, from Chandigarh, ThePrint has learnt.
Sources in the Delhi Police said the two shooters, Nitin ‘fauji’ and Rohit Rathore, were arrested from Chandigarh by the New Delhi range unit of the Crime Branch on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
“They were hiding in a hotel in Chandigarh. We traced them using technical and human intelligence,” said one officer who did not want to be named.
According to sources in Rajasthan Police, while Nitin is a ‘serving soldier’, Rohit is an accused in three cases including one in which he was charged under the POCSO Act.
Besides the two, police have also apprehended one Udham Singh, who is believed to be their associate.
Nitin and Rohit had opened fire at Gogamedi at his Jaipur residence Tuesday. The chief of the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena was later declared dead on arrival at a local hospital.
As ThePrint reported earlier, Naveen Shekhawat — an “acquaintance” of Gogamedi who was also killed in the shooting — is believed to have granted the duo access to the residence without any knowledge of their intentions.
While Rohit Godara, a gangster with suspected ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, had in a post on Facebook claimed responsibility for the shooting, police officials had maintained until now that any such claims can only be verified after the shooters are apprehended and interrogated.
