Keralam’s polling stations rise to 30,682 after EC-approved restructuring

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (PTI) The EC has approved the restructuring of polling stations in Keralam, resulting in the addition of 216 new stations, officials said on Friday.

The state earlier had 30,471 polling stations, according to a statement.

As part of the exercise, 216 new polling stations have been set up, while five existing ones have been merged.

The buildings or locations of 178 other polling stations have also been changed, the statement said.

With these changes, the total number of polling stations in the state has risen to 30,682.

The restructuring was undertaken based on factors such as the number of voters at each polling station, availability of basic infrastructure, accessibility for voters and the geographical features of the area.

The new polling stations were established and some existing ones relocated in accordance with the Election Commission’s prescribed criteria, including the maximum permissible number of voters at each polling station.

The respective District Collectors will take further action in this regard, the statement added. PTI LGK SSK
