Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 24 (PTI) Prominent Malayalam singers, like K J Yesudas and K S Chitra, have lent their voice to the Keralam government’s anti-narcotics campaign ‘Operation Toofan’ by coming together to make a special music album against the drug menace, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Thursday.
Chennithala, in a Facebook post, said that the album was released as a music CD at the Press Club here a day ago and contains songs by Yesudas, Chitra and M G Sreekumar.
The minister further said that the music CD is titled ‘Toofan ki Awaaz’ and is jointly produced by the Global Kerala Initiative-Keraleeyam, which according to its website is a non-governmental organisation.
Its activities, according to the website, are mainly focused in areas like promotion of Keralam culture abroad, propagation of tourism-related activities, rehabilitation of HIV positive children and the terminally ill.
Chennithala said that the music album would be available to the public soon.
According to the police, as part of Operation Toofan, 12,384 people have been arrested from various parts of the state since the launch of the drive on June 2.
On Wednesday, 62 more people were arrested in 60 cases, taking the number of cases taken as part of Operation Toofan to 11,498.
So far, over 24 kilograms of MDMA, 1536.018 kg of cannabis, 766.309 grams of brown sugar and 3,024 cannabis plants have been seized as part of the anti-drug drive.
In addition to that, as part of Operation Toofan, Kerala Police conducted 47 awareness classes across the state on Wednesday alone.
The total number of awareness classes conducted so far by the police is 10,128 and the number of counseling sessions is 829, police said, adding that close to 7,000 awareness programmes were also conducted under the leadership of school and college protection groups.
